The Egyptian Food Bank, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, has provided urgent assistance to families affected by the heavy rainfall in New Valley Governorate, particularly in the Darb Al-Arbaeen area of the Paris Center. The intense downpours led to flooding in the streets and caused damage to numerous residences in the southern part of the governorate. The East Owaynat area, located in the south of New Valley near the Sudanese border, also experienced substantial rainfall, impacting agricultural and desert regions.
In a swift response to this crisis, the Egyptian Food Bank delivered approximately 124 food parcels to the most affected families. Each family received a parcel containing essential food items, including rice, pasta, sugar, oil, as well as legumes such as beans and lentils, meat, and other necessary supplies.
The Egyptian Food Bank remains dedicated to supporting vulnerable families in times of crisis. From July 2023 to June 2024, EFB distributed approximately 9.2 thousand tons of food parcels as part of its Crisis Relief Initiative. This initiative aims to provide immediate aid to areas most prone to crises and natural disasters, with a particular focus on border governorates.
